For those students that want a little bit more contact, we offer Mixed Martial Arts classes that include Chinese Kickboxing (Sanda) and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Sanda (or Sanshou) is full-contact Chinese kickboxing that combines standard kickboxing, sweeps, throws, takedowns, kick catches, wrestling, and grappling techniques. In recent years, Sanda has been developed into a sport, and restrictions have been added for safety reasons. Today, many techniques such as elbow strikes, chokes, and joint locks are not allowed during tournaments for these reasons. Competitors can win by knockout or points which are earned by landing strikes to the body or head, throwing an opponent, or when competition is held on a raised lei tai platform, pushing them off the platform. The emphasis of Sanshou is on realistic fighting ability.
We teach Sanshou to our advanced Kickboxers only. If this is something you are interested in, please consult with your instructor.
